A bit about me…
I believe its always helpful to know a bit about a person prior to meeting them for the first time. So, Hi. I’m Kelly, Lead Principal Designer here at Two Twenty Interiors. If you’re on the fence about whether or not to hire an interior designer, my background and story may help you in your decision process.
Let’s rewind back to the early 2000’s. If you remember ABC Networks show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition which aired regularly on Sunday nights, then you too are probably guilty of shouting along with the cast “Move that bus!”. This is where my interest in interiors began. I became hooked on the creativity involved and the level of customization that went into each space.
Fast-Forward a few years, there was my pottery phase, where, at 12 years old, Wednesday nights were dedicated to the hand-wheel and making ceramics - some of which still line the shelves of my parents home as vases and shelving decor. For anyone searching for their next hobby - ceramics can serve as a creative outlet, commanding focus and attention to process.
After a year-long CAD-Architecture design course where I spent my days drafting floorplans and constructing 3-D models of homes during my time in high school, I quickly learned first-hand that precision matters, and quite honestly is probably the reason for my obsession over details in my role today.
Thanks to 4 incredible years at Siena College (Roll Saints!) where I received my B.S. in Business Management, I landed opportunities to work in NYC for two different tech startups, and one Fortune 500 company, each in different customer-facing sales roles. This phase of life taught me a lot about people, the value of time, and the power of grit.
So when did the idea for Two Twenty Interiors begin to stem?
Everyone has a Covid story; Mine being the simple fact that boredom during quarantine led to me stripping the wallpaper off my bathroom walls in-between corporate Zoom calls and rearranging and re-decorating almost every room of the house during weekends.
I found that by embracing these tasks, my mind kept active, I was more motivated to be physically mobile, and I got to exercise the creative side of my brain to execute on my drawings and visions, bringing them into real-life spaces. In working with us, you’ll too get to experience those same emotions of inspiration, motivation, and joy.
Over the last few years, we’ve been re-designing, renovating, and decorating new-build homes, historic homes, investment properties, and Airbnb spaces local to Newport, Rhode Island. We’ve even evolved to be able to support our e-design clients scattered among the East Coast and Central regions here in the US, through our virtual design services.
Interior design is a practice that requires passion, patience, and lots of planning. It’s a hobby-turned-business that’s truly at my core. It connects us as humans - turned clients - turned friends.
